Russ “The Bear” Gilley

Russ has been with Steel Reserve since it was born.  He joined us the night the team was named.  Since then Russ has competed in every scenario with the team and played in California without the team.

Russ began as the engineer on the team and readily accepted the position.  We believe this goes back to June 2004 at Challenge Park when Russ got to rebuild a location called Ray’s Bar.  Outside of paintball, Russ is the guy who’s #1 priority is a bar, especially one with a good porter and a female bartender with an accent.

Russ brings to the team a solid field commander and has stepped into the role of General and XO when needed.  His field vision and situational awareness enable him to excel at these roles, however, Russ shines brightest when he's firing his gun...fast.  (His fast fingers "faster than ramping" as he says, come from many lonely nights at home practicing)

Russ’ nickname comes from his inability to be affected by adverse conditions.  During a rather cold scenario a couple of years back, Russ was seen in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals one morning cooking himself a half dozen eggs for breakfast while the outside temperature was in the low 40’s.
